ALPR in every car.

You know about the power of Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR), but are concerned about the cost. On your limited budget, how many systems you can implement? Will it provide sufficient coverage?

Now, Panasonic and PlateScan have combined to offer the most affordable ALPR system yet available. And, only through Panasonic’s reseller network can you get this advanced system (SYS-P-1).

The system configuration includes the powerful PlateScan ALPR software loaded onto an existing Panasonic Toughbook. These are connected to a visor-mounted color camera. It is the most cost effective way to deploy a multi-vehicle ALPR system.

Included in the SYS-P-1 package is PlateScan’s software and operating manual, PlateScan’s ALPR color camera, a camera visor mount, and PlateScan’s switch/interface box.

The Toughbook-based system will be enabled to constantly scan license plates, comparing them automatically against multiple local, regional, state and federal databases of interest to law enforcement. Officers will be alerted audibly and visually when a positive match is made so that appropriate action can be taken.

Every license plate scanned by the system is also date, time and GPS encoded when a GPS modem is deployed. This data can be downloaded wirelessly, or by memory stick if wireless capability is not available. The data can be consolidated on a single server and analyzed using PlateScan’s suite of crime information management tools for post-incident investigation or other requirements.

How does PlateScan ALPR work?

Every license plate passing the camera’s field of view is scanned and compared to a list of “vehicles of interest” associated with auto theft, felony warrants, BOLOs, parking violations, or any other license plate-oriented database, such as Amber Alerts, NCIC, CAD/RMS data extracts, gang members, sex offenders, etc. that the police agency wishes to use.

The system is able to read both reflective and non-reflective plates, as well as license plates from states that use red characters, often unreadable in infrared light. Therefore, typical criminal counter measures are not able to defeat ALPR vehicles equipped with PlateScan color recognition cameras.

This major technological advantage firmly positions PlateScan as the premiere License Plate Recognition company in the US.

Until an alert occurs, the PlateScan system can operate in the background, allowing officers to perform their regular police activities. When a positive match occurs, officers are alerted by an audio and visual alarm. They can then respond to the “hit” in an appropriate manner.

PlateScan software uses an intelligent Neural Network-based color recognition engine, providing a distinct advantage over competitive base-level solutions, such as OCR, as it significantly enhances the accuracy rate.

Research has shown that patrol officers equipped with the technology can have arrest rates significantly higher than those working without it. This will deliver reductions in crime, enhanced community safety and safer roads.

PlateScan is also available in many other configurations both for mobile and permanently fixed installations.
